TOKYO – PEDALOS AND ROWING BOATS IN THE SHINOBAZU POND

JAPAN – TOKYO – Pedalos and rowing boats in the Shinobazu Pond – Ueno Park – 不忍池

Take a long, quiet walk
through the UENO PARK,
one of the most popular parks in Tokyo.
Thousands of cherry trees are a spectacular view
that rejoices the soul.

Myriads of birds that lay on your hands,
butterflies, herons… make it an enchanting place.

The park contains many gems including:
Buddhist temples, shinto sanctuaries,
several famous museums and schools,
a structure by Le Corbusier,
the first zoo in Japan
and a famous, attractive natural pond
which appears in many famous paintings:
the SHINOBAZU POND (不忍 池).

In the Edo period, this lake was known
as a place where young couples would go.

The largest section on the southwest
is called “The Lotus Pond”,
because in the Summer it is covered in lotus flowers,
to the point that water is no longer visible.

At its center, lays the Benten Island
(弁 天 島 Benten-jima)
on which stands the Bentendō (弁 天堂),
a Buddhist temple dedicated to Benzaiten,
Goddess of wealth, happiness, wisdom and music.

The East section is called
THE BOAT POND“:
because of a boat hire in service since 1939,
still popular today with couples and families.
Here you can enjoy the surrounding landscape
between nature and skyscrapers,
while you row a boat or comfortably ride a covered pedalo,
in the shape of a swan too!
