Hikawa is a Shinto shrine dedicated to BISHAMONTEN,
protector from diseases, disasters and misfortune…
and fulfiller of the deepest desires.

Hikawa means “FIRE RIVER”
and it was built in 939 AD by the Samurai
Imperial Prince Minamoto no Tsunemoto.

The large portable shrine (mikoshi)
and the purification trough date back to the Edo period.
The main hall is bright vermilion
and there is a splendid stage for sacred dances.

Trivia: this is the shrine that appears
in the famous Manga “SAILOR MOON.”
